Having just watched the movie, Helen of Troy, I was interested in learning more about this Epic tale. Clarke's book provided a very comprehensive background. He told the story from both sides of the conflict. I was especially intrigued by the recounting of what happened to the various chiefs after the war ended. Very good book. Lightly researched with little solid information. Not useful as a research instrument. Maybe useable for children. Found it extremely disappointing.
This book was purchased for my husband and he said that it was close to a book that he had read in school over fifty years ago and wished to read again.

Sometimes authors from 100 years ago tell the story in a more compelling manner - loved the bits and pieces of the illiad by many translators -
