Move over Alfred Hitchcock and Steven King, DK Cassidy is on her way up. Spilt Milk is a collection of superbly crafted shorts and flash fiction. Each tale is twisted in its own delightfully macabre manner.

In this set of short stories, Cassidy has demonstrated her ability to set a scene using a minimum of words. Her characters quickly draw the reader into the story. Some characters are lovable, others not so much. Curiously, they all have some spark of common humanity that we all can identify with.

These shorts are perfect for the commuter who doesn’t have more than a few minutes to read on the bus, as long as they get home before dark. These are stories that the reader will remember long after they have finished the book.

Spilt Milk A Collection of Stories edition by DK Cassidy Mika Sugano EJ Runyon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

"Spilt Milk" was an interesting read that feels almost like poetry.

The author did an excellent job of creating deep characters in a short amount of space. One seems to utterly understand each of her characters and their struggles in just the snippets of their lives that the author provides.

Furthermore, Cassidy does a splendid job of bringing seemingly unrelated events together in a fascinating circle.

The book is well edited and the use of parallelism is fantastic. Overall this was a great read. Those who enjoyed the show "Lost" will love this book.
This fascinating collection of well-written short stories examines the lives of emotionally and mentally damaged people and the reasons they are the way they are. These stories are perceptive, insightful and often disturbing, yet there are glimmers of golden hope as well. Many of the characters show up in multiple stories in this masterfully woven collection, threading them with greater meaning than the individual stories hold. This book is well worth the short amount of time it takes to read. D. K. Cassidy is a talented author and one to be watched. This unusual collection of stories is unabashedly a five star book and I look forward to reading more from this author!
If you like dark and macabre stories, you will love this set of very well-written small tales of strange, "odd", quirky tales, a few of which are also ghoulish. Once I opened this book in my , I couldn't put it down. I'm reminded of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde," Stephen King and other authors in this genre. I My hat is off to D. K. Cassidy for writing about these strange people. I look forward to reading more of your works.
Spilt Milk by D. K. Cassidy is a short story collection that tells the entwined lives of two very disturbed guys, Caleb and George.

A drug-addicted mother dies in childbirth producing her son Caleb. A disinterested and abusive father is oblivious about his young son’s predilection for harming small animals. After performing a heinous crime that lands him in a juvenile mental hospital, Caleb welcomes his eighteenth birthday. The young man can now seek friends that understand him.

George learns early to build a closet sanctuary that his battling parents never bother to investigate. It comforts George to fill his fortress with misbegotten collectables. He too is now an adult. Rather than battling a dangerous addiction, collector George embraces it. His vice is a monstrous lifestyle, because his imaginary friends urge George to do so.

Caleb posts a help wanted ad for a worker who loves collecting special things. The night job takes place behind the hospital. Caleb and George hit it off. Pity the people that catch the duo’s interest.

Spilt Milk is a subtle, disturbing, and delicious collection of related short stories that takes the reader into a surreal, yet reasonable, dreadful world. The stories have no bloody and squeamish parts, but nonetheless, they make your gut cringe. Between George and Caleb’s vignettes are glimpses into the sad and odd souls who cross their path. D. K. Cassidy uses a masterful hand in describing the characters. The frugal prose is much more effective than gushing over the bloody details. I just had to read the book twice, and it scared the bejesus out of me the second time, too.

Spilt Milk is highly recommended for readers who have always wondered why some innocent-seeming people make them feel like a hellcat just ran over their grave. Now we know.
