I have a love hate relationship with this book series.

I love Sarah's writing style, she is funny and smart and I love her characters so much. Of course you grow to love her characters and you see them grow and change, and you want the best for them. Then Sarah goes and destroys your soul and you are left with nothing but a dark heart.

Untold had me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure what the hell was going to happen and if possible at all could it be okay. Ash is trying to redeem himself, Kami and Jared are trying to get their shit together, Holly is just completely confused about life in general. Angela and Rusty are the most stable in this group and continue being the same as they ever where. Lillian is hell bent on killing Rob (not that anyone blames her) and she is just as snotty as she was before. Rob is hell bent on Sorry-in-the-Vale totally domination.

As for the other minor characters, well we see more of Kami's dad, Jon. He as more interaction with Kami and he actually learns some stuff. I am wondering about Kami's mother, Claire. I am so suspicious of her, she is obvious up to something and I really want to know what. Don't forget that she and Rob had a past. While Rosalind is still herself. I feel slightly bad for this woman and it is made even more so in this book, however they way she is/was with Jared there is only so much pity she can receive.

I really did love Untold and if you haven't decided on reading it yet you should and let Sarah darken your heart too.

P.S. If Sarah doesn't fix all of this crap she has set in motion by the end of Unmade (Book #3), I will completely lose my shit.

Untold Sarah Rees Brennan author 9780857078094 Books Reviews

I absolutely loved Unspoken, a true gem of a book. Which is why I was so terribly looking forward to Untold. Terribly why you must ask? Well Untold is the sophomore book in a series aka the filler book. Also known as the one that does not always deliver. Will Sarah Rees Brennan’s book Untold circume to the sophomore curse? Or will it stand on it’s own, head held high?

The book starts off with a high note- an army of scarecrow attacking Kami and Angela. Kami and Angela of course using snark and cunning intellect to beat the scarecrows back. Jared and Ash do help (okay mainly Jared). Kami and Angela’s relationship still best friends even after what happened in Unspoken. Supportive and always each other’s side-kick, although there is a little bit of doubt between these two. Doubt caused by the secrets they kept- and let out. But theirs is a friendship that will overcome the pesky naysayers.

Jared and Kami on the other hands are on the outs. Both avoiding the other, yet longing for each other. Jared not knowing what to do is acting like a jerk. Kami unsure of herself and her feelings for Jared is just lonely. Ash is an added complication, that I do begin to stop hating. His is a lonely existence, with all of his friends hating him due to his role in being evil.

Now the townspeople are the ones that I am hating on. Hello there is a guy that wants you to pay a freaking blood sacrifice in order to stop him from pouring down hellfire and damnation onto your town. And you are willingly going to do it? You are not going to fight? You are not even going to talk about fighting? Did something hit you over your head? Hello… if you only had a brain… And how often are you going to pay this sacrifice yearly? Bi-yearly? Every decade? I mean what is one or two dead people in the grand scheme of things.

Thankfully Lillian knows that she has to fight her husband and sister. Unfortunately, she forgets what it is like to be teenager and tries to do it without the help of others. BIG MISTAKE! A big mistake that leads to a cliff-hanger of an ending. One that I did not see coming.

Sarah Rees Breanna really is trying to kill her readers. Why oh why? Please let him stay safe, Kami do what it is that you do best- believe in him. And blast it where are the other sorcerers that can help kill Rob? I mean seriously? Only the humans will stand up to him?

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “You can’t be mean to him all the time. I want to be mean to him sometimes. We can switch days. I doubt we can get along.”

Other People

Holly- beautiful gal at Kami’s school that cons her way into their group.
Angela- Kami’s anti-people best friend.
Ash- Jared’s imperfect cousin, me hates him.
Rusty- Angela's brother, he pretty much rocks of awesomeness
When the Lynburn family returned to Sorry-in-the-Vale after nearly two decades of absence, amateur journalist Kami Glass saw it as an opportunity to find out just what kind of secrets her cozy little town was hiding. She never expected to discover the imaginary friend she’d been hearing in her head all her life was real and that magic runs through the veins of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Now Rob Lynburn, a powerful sorcerer, is determined to take control of the town and resurrect a system of sacrifices in order to gain more power. Kami and her friends must find a way to stop him before more blood is spilled.

I reread Unspoken, the first book in Sarah Rees Brennan’s Lynburn Legacy series, at the end of July and finally got around to picking this second book up for a reread. Untold takes all of the fun elements of Unspoken and raises the stakes. Kami Glass is still one of my favorite protagonists. She continues to surprise those who’ve underestimated just how brave, tenacious, and resourceful she can be. The relationship between the characters are constantly developing and even though I’ve already read this one, the tension and anguish felt just as fresh as the first time. Characters like Jared Lynburn, who has a lot of messy thoughts about himself and whose behavior can sometimes be self-destructive, are the ones you root for the most throughout this series. In Unspoken his entire world seemed to revolve around Kami, the one person in his life he’d been able to count on, but in Untold, he learns to trust other people and I really liked seeing his relationship with his cousin Ash grow.

Brennan has a gift for writing flawed characters and she isn’t afraid to let them make mistakes. Even the adults, who sometimes play minuscule roles or are absent altogether in YA books, are given a chance to be human. They make mistakes, they don’t always know what to do, and sometimes their fear gets the best of them. Not only do we learn more about magic and the history of the Lynburns in this sequel, but minor characters like Rusty and Holly are given larger parts. I love the fact that not all the relationships in this book are made important by their proximity to the protagonist. Everyone has their own issues with one another. They have their own arcs, which makes every character important and enjoyable to read about.

Untold manages to be hilarious, witty, and heart-breaking. I’ve been avoiding the last book in the series because I don’t want to let go of these wonderful characters, but after finishing this one, I don’t think I can wait too much longer to find out what happens.
