Wonderful Romance with a Paranormal Element

In dead of night in 1885, Dr. Robert Devlin's guardian angel Gavin informs him he's a work in progress. Rob is an accomplished physician and a University of Colorado clinical faculty member. He does the best job possible as a single father to Gracie after his beloved wife Sarah's death. What can be worse than to be found wanting by a guardian angel?

Tess Rutledge seems to have it all. She lives in luxury in Denver. She has a wonderful toddler son Scottie. Her handsome husband, mining baron and industrialist Graham Rutledge, gives her everything a woman could. Except for love, comfort, and personal safety.

Thanks to Gavin's earthly meddling in the lives of the people he loves, Rob and Tess' paths cross on a train. In a time in which a man's word was law and a woman was considered the property of her husband, Rob has to make a socially difficult but morally correct decision. At the same time, the couple are stalked by an unseen, deadly force, determined to leave death in its wake.

Terms of Engagement, by Lorrie Farrelly, is a powerful story. It incorporates love, danger, and excitement, with a soupcon of the paranormal.

Terms of Engagement Lorrie Farrelly 9781469953427 Books Reviews

What a wonderful book.A sweet wonderful love story and some adventure and suspense thrown in.I loved these two characters and wish had known them in real life.Just loved this book and one of the best I have read in a long time.
I don't think the author knows much about abused women.
Usually it takes at least a good year or years even to trust another man to touch you.
I did like the guardian angel of the doctor.
So did Tess ever have another baby? I am choosing believing that she did!!!
I enjoyed to read it. I was really disgusted by Graham but loved Robert.
Domestic violence is a terrible thing and I know to well what is it about and understand Tess's reaction.
So that story was very emotional for me but I was happy to read and laugh with Robert's family and especially the twins.
The soupçon of paranormal with Gavin doesn't feel out of place at all.
I sure will enjoy to read the third of the seri.
This book is about Teresa, a young woman who is cruelly beaten by her husband and her plans to run away with their son. She with stood the beatings until one day he struck their two year old son and so she took off. On the train she gets very ill and is treated by Dr. Devlin. From there they wind up on his sister's ranch and their struggles to get her free from such a monster as her husband. The plot is a good one and my only objection is that the author added too many pages of description that I felt were not necessary.
This is the second book in the series.

So often, when you find an unknown author, it's the same old crapola. Same situations, same scenes, and sometimes even the same old names. Not so with this fine author.

Ms Farrelly tells an unusual tale that kept me reading and not wanting to put it down. Her characters are real, her situations unusual, and her story telling unique. Very well done.

However, I think that in this book, Ms Farrelly spent a bit too much time on the lives of all the people of the family. I realize that it was meant to show the h what a good life could be, but it went on too far. I enjoyed it, but found myself wondering when the action was going to continue.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and in fact found myself shedding a few tears in a couple instances! It was so nice it ended on a happy note. I really liked all the characters, except for TESS's husband and that mean assassin! Really admired Michael and all those kids were just the funniest and sfounded so cute! It would be a toss up which story was the best, this one or the first . Both were so good! I hope the next one is just as enjoyable. I recommend this trilogy for all you women and men will enjoy it also! I have one complaint. The author ask a person to leave a review, then about half way into it, either the cursor messes up or it misspelled a word and won't let you correct it no matter how many times you delete it .. It is really aggrevating
The first book I ever read by this author was Terms Of Surrender, and I loved it. I even liked Dangerous, which was different but not quite as good. I sort of feel that way about Terms Of Engagement--it was different and good, just not as good.

The story was fine, and I liked the supernatural element, even though I don't usually like the inclusion of spirits or ghosts in non-paranormal books. The problem was that the writing didn't seem as good as I remember from TOS. This novel was apparently written in omniscient POV. Perhaps TOS was, too; but if it was, it was better done. I don't recall it feeling so head-hop-ish. And, although I don't mind some sweetness in romances, some of the scenes and dialogue in this book were a little too sappy, even for me.

All in all, though, Terms Of Engagement was an enjoyable read. I did like the characters and the overall story. Four stars.
