This book was "rave" reviewed on NPR, so I invested without a second thought. It has many positive points and certainly gives an African American perspective on a different level--the characters in the book are very, very wealthy African Americans and live a life style much different than perhaps what might be "expected". However, the level of the writing does not do this classic story justice and we are tempted to skip portions of the text, because there is a great deal of repetition. I did finish reading the book, but would not give it the rave review I heard on NPR.

Descriptive and entertaining. Can hardly wait to finish it.
It was a little too wordy but very enjoyable. A good book club choice. I would have given it more stars but sometimes the author seemed to digress too often.
It’s been awhile since I have read for pleasure. This retelling of a classic with a Harlem spin was perfect for pulling me back in.
A sexy, beautifully written re-telling of Dangerous Liaisons, with a fresh cast of characters and settings. Highly enjoyed this novel.
Beautifully written! Even though I knew the story of Dangerous Liaisons on which this is based, there were still plot elements that surprised me. Mostly though it was the rich layers of each character that were unveiled over the course of the book that made this so compelling.
Sophfronia Scott makes the characters in her novel so multi dimensional. Val's journey of feeling and loving is a must read! So many currents and undercurrents of plot makes it appealing, sexy and yet oh so human!
I started by falling in love with the cover alone. Luscious and gorgeous! What a great and fascinating read by that will keep you gripped from beginning to end. I predict this is Sophfronia Scott's break-out book that will put every new book she writes on the must-read list!
